NPCC's North Campus
NPCC Foundation Auction House

The public is invited to take a tour of the 2018 North Platte Community College Foundation Auction House. A sneak peek of the home is planned for 5-7 p.m. Thursday on NPCC's North Campus, 1101 Halligan Drive.

Every year, students in the college’s Building Construction, Electrical and Heating Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVAC-R) Technology programs construct a house from the ground up as part of their training.

In the process, they gain hands-on, real-world experience and an appreciation for quality craftsmanship that they can take with them into the workforce.

The house is then sold via silent auction, and the proceeds are used for scholarships for NPCC's building trade students.

Bids will open on the 2018 auction house at 1 p.m. April 2. The minimum starting bid will be $127,500. Bids will close at 2 p.m. May 4. No online bids will be accepted past noon on that day.

Further details regarding the house, the auction and other processes may be found on the college’s website at: mpcc.edu.

The public can tour the house from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, or by appointment, up until the date it is sold. Appointments for tours can be scheduled through the North Campus Welcome Center, 535-3601. Those interested in more information about the house can contact Fattig at 535-3646, or fattigr@mpcc.edu.

“ROAD TO PROPERTY TAX REFORM” FORUM IN STAPLETON

McPherson, Logan and Thomas County Farm Bureaus are sponsoring a “Road to Property Tax Reform” forum on Mon., Feb. 19 at 2:00 p.m. at the Community Center in Stapleton. The event is open to the public. For additional information contact Matt Fiechtner, president, McPherson County Farm Bureau, (308) 636-8505 or Tammy Fiechtner, north central regional manager, (402) 615-0635

Steve Nelson, president of the Nebraska Farm Bureau, and Bruce Rieker, vice president of governmental relations, will provide updates on property tax bills pending in the Nebraska Legislature and discuss the broader property tax landscape in Nebraska.

“Whether you are a homeowner, a business owner, or a farmer or rancher, it’s important for everyone concerned about property taxes to learn what they can do to make a real difference. You don’t have to be a farmer or rancher to come. This event is open to everyone,” Tammy Fiechtner, north central regional manager, said Feb. 8.

Today, Nebraskans pay the seventh highest property tax rate in the nation. As a result, property taxes are now one of the highest costs and greatest expenses associated with farming and ranching in Nebraska. “We hope to see folks Mon., Feb. 19 at 2:00 p.m. at the Community Center in Stapleton to learn more about the ‘Road to Property Tax Reform,’” Fiechtner said.

Gallery Exhibit- Impact Nebraska Artists "Best"

Event Dates and Times

1/30/2018 - 3/4/2018
Prairie Arts Center
The Gallery Exhibit-Impact Nebraska Artists "Best" will be shown January 30-March 4th with a Gallery Talk and reception at PAC Saturday Feb. 10th 1-3 pm. Artists will be present to talk about their artwork and the IMPACT Nebraska Program.

IMPACT: NEBRASKA ARTISTS

IMPACT, a non-profit Nebraska visual arts organization, was founded in 1985 - Its mission to educate through outreach programs and exhibitions. From inception, IMPACT has been recognized for professionalism and a high level of creative expression.

Each of the artist members has been juried in by an eminent museum director or academic figure. The requirement is that they are “nationally recognized in their respective artistic discipline.” Members do all the work themselves: contacting museums and booking shows, producing publicity materials, building crates, transporting work to far-flung venues. Many small towns with an arts center or a gallery have had the benefit of a sophisticated, professional exhibition in their backyard. Impact artists work in a variety of media—Oil, Watercolors, Acrylic, Mixed Media, Pastels, Photography, Batik, Clay, Metal, and Swedish knot embroidery.

The first Impact show traveled widely throughout the country, and Impact published a book of their works, which won several awards. Today Impact offers separate thematic shows— Kooser Impact (art inspired by Ted Kooser’s poems,) Postcards from the Plains (small works,) All Things Botanical (landscapes and flowers,) Impact Best (artists’ signature works) Skyscape ((interpretations of Skies) and Nebraska Roots (150 year celebration of the state of NE)

Museums and communities in Nebraska and surrounding states can schedule one of these shows. You can view Impact’s various exhibitions on its website—www.impactart.ne.org
