At least 10 fire departments battle a fire south of Lewellen near Ash Hollow

Firefighters fight a blaze burning south of Lewellen near Ash Hollow. It started around 2:45 MT Thursday afternoon.

The Garden County Sheriff's Office says the fire spanned approximately six miles long and four miles wide.

Officials said at least 10 fire departments have been helping to contain the fire, along with ranchers and farmers in the area.

Nebraska Department of Roads, Garden County Sheriff's Office, and Deuel County Sheriff's Office were on scene assisting with traffic on Highway 26, while it was temporarily closed.

Garden County Sheriff Michelle Quinn said HWY 26 is back open.
