LYMAN, Neb. (KNEP) - The Scotts Bluff County Sheriff's Office said 32 year-old Russell T. Surratt died Thursday as a result of a single vehicle rollover accident in rural Scotts Bluff County.

Scotts Bluff County Sheriff Mark Overman says authorities initially responded to a call of an emotionally-disturbed family member with a firearm in the Lyman area. After the first request for police assistance, a second call was received saying shots had been fired, and that Surratt had left the residence. A family member then followed Surratt, relaying his location to authorities.

Overman says as deputies and Nebraska State Patrol troopers were closing in on Surratt's vehicle location, another report was received of a one-vehicle rollover at the intersection of County Roads 5 and R. Lyman Fire used extrication equipment to pull Surratt from the vehicle, and he was taken to RWMC by Airlink, where Surratt was later pronounced dead.
