Bio Ag Solutions chops up yard waste to grow better crops

NORTH PLATTE, Neb (KNOP) -- It's what is in the soil that helps farmers grow good crops above it. Plants need nutrients. A business in Lincoln County wants to help producer grow better crops.

Nick Sosa of Bio Ag Solutions, says, "Our compost helps bring that organic matter, water holding capacity, adjusting ph to the soil so that we can get the soil nutrients right for the crops to grow and optimize."

Bio Ag Solutions takes soil samples in the spring before farmers plant and figure out what the field needs

Jerry Santee of Bio Ag Solutions, says, "We're making what's called a humus compost. We're taking actual feed stock, wood shavings from the city of North Platte, grass clippings from the city of North Platte and turning it into a humus compost."

Bio Sg Solutions takes your compost and using these turning machines, adding oxygen and moisture. and taking it from this and turning it into soil like this. They don't over compensate, saving the farmers money short term, and adding to their profits in the long run by producing bigger yields.

Mitch Huebner says, "It's helping the farmers because its a product that's actually improving their soil. It builds organic matter."

"They're not just transferring this (yard waste) to a landfill somewhere. We're turning it into a compost and putting it back into the environment, back into farms or gardens, anything. you know, it's a natural nutrient," says Huebner.

Bio AG Solutions will be using North Platte yard waste and tree branches to put nutrients back into the farmers' soil.

They say their goal is to create sustainable farming and growing crops that produce big yields.

"As the farmers grow their crops, the crops are always constantly removing nutrients from the soil and every time we till the ground it disrupts that organic matter a little bit, so our compost helps bring organic matter, water holding capacity, adjusting the PH to the soil so that we can get the soil nutrients right for the crops to grow and optimize," Nick Sosa says.

Bio AG Solutions will benefit both the farmers and keep waste out of the landfill.

City officials say to continue to put your waste in the proper bins in the alley and on the streets. It will be collected from the city by Bio AG Solutions and used around local farms and gardens.
