Cause of Christmas eve derailment near Sidney still under investigation

Still no word on the cause of a weekend freight train derailment west of Sidney.

Union Pacific spokesperson Kristen South says it will take some time for investigators to figure out why 22 cars jumped the tracks Sunday morning.

Reports say no one was injured in the accident on the UP line near the intersection with Highway 30.

South says both lines were open by 5:30 pm Christmas day. The UP lines in that area are said to be among the busiest in the country
