North Platte, Neb. (KNOP) - Community Action Partnership of Mid-Nebraska helps with utility bills. Those falling below the 125 federal poverty guidelines can get assistance.
Since October, the agency has been able to help 107 of the 177 families who asked for help. The assisted with nearly $3300 in utility payments.
To see if you qualify for help, you can Ashley Perlinger at 1-308-532-3250. She will review your situation over the phone, and if she believes the agency can help, she will make an appointment for you to come in to the office to do paperwork.
Perlinger, the Community Services Coordinator, said it is "tough to hear people's situations." She said, "No one should have to choose between food, or between getting their lights shut off and between paying their rent." She said she is glad they can help when they can.
The guidelines are pretty strict. Those needing help must fall 125% below the federal poverty levels. At 2017 rates, that would be, for example (gross) - income of $1256 per month for one person; $1692 per month income for a two person household.
Census.gov reports that 11.4 of Nebraskans fall below the Federal Poverty Level. .
