Congressman nominates 13 Nebraska students to U.S. Service Academies

Washington, D.C. (KNOP) - Members of Congress have the privilege of nominating young people for admission to the U.S. Service Academies, which include the U.S. Military Academy, the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Air Force Academy, and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.

The Service Academies offer a unique opportunity for motivated students to serve their country while undergoing a rigorous academic and physical regimen. In exchange for tuition, students agree to serve in the U.S. military after graduation.

“These talented young Nebraskans have demonstrated the skills and determination necessary to be the future leaders of our military, and it is an honor to nominate them to the U.S. Service Academies,” Smith said. “With their strong desire to serve our country, they have also shown dedication to their studies and a commitment to their communities. I know they will represent the Third District well.”

Zachary Argo of Firth, son of Brian and Amy Argo, is a senior at Norris High School. He has been nominated to the U.S. Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Brendon Brown of Sidney, son of Lawrence and Shawna Brown, is a graduate of Sidney High School attending the Naval Academy Preparatory School in Newport, Rhode Island. He has been nominated to the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland.

Isaac Dodge of Callaway, son of James and Karen Dodge, is a senior at Broken Bow High School. He has been nominated to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York.

Eli Fink of Stratton, son of Kevin and Renee Fink, is a senior at Dundy County Stratton High School. He has been nominated to the U.S. Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Gideon Fink of Stratton, son of Kevin and Renee Fink, is a senior at Dundy County Stratton High School. He has been nominated to the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, New York, and the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland.

Gavin Fox of Grand Island, son of Scott and Laura Fox, is a senior at Grand Island Central Catholic High School. He has been nominated to the U.S. Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Dylan Horton of Alliance, son of Lyle and Kate Horton, is a senior at Alliance High School. He has been nominated to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York, and the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland.

John Kinnaman of Auburn, son of Bryan and Amber Kinnaman, is a senior at Auburn High School. He has been nominated to the U.S. Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs, Colorado, and the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York.

Leon Linhart of York, son of Russ and Xann Linhart, is a senior at York High School. He has been nominated to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York.

Jace Rogers of North Platte, son of Justin Rogers and Jennifer Baumert, is a senior at North Platte High School. He has been nominated to the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland.

Cooper Smith of DeWitt, son of Delva and Kelly Smith, is a senior at Tri County Jr./Sr. High School. He has been nominated to the U.S. Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs, Colorado.

James Smith of Kearney, son of Ryan and Omruthai Smith, is a senior at Kearney High School. He has been nominated to the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland.

Mark Taylor of Chadron, son of Brian and Sara Taylor, is a senior at Chadron High School. He has been nominated to the U.S. Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs, Colorado, and the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York.

Applicants met personally with Smith’s Academy Advisory Committee and were evaluated on academic achievement, extracurricular involvement, career motivation, personal traits, letters of recommendation, essays, and personal interviews.
