NORTH PLATTE. Neb -- Catholic youth from all around the Diocese of Grand Island participated in the 30th annual Going Bananas for Jesus conference being held this year in North Platte.
Around 500 youth are attending this year. The youth conference happens every other year and is held in a different city each time.
"It does give that effect of I am not alone and that there's strength in numbers but not just number, a strength of, I can relate to someone else," said Bishop Joseph G. Hanefeldt of the Diocese of Grand Island.
Host families help house those from out of town. Ages groups range from 6th to 12th grade. Those who participated said it's a good way to connect with their faith.
"It's just really cool to see this many Catholics come together and have a good time," said Rita Woodraska, a participant.
The conference ends on Sunday with morning mass.
