Honor Band showcases top local musical talent

NORTH PLATTE, Neb.-- A group of young and talented musicians gathered today, January 27th, 2018 in North Platte for the annual Nebraska Honor Band.

95 middle school students participated from over 21 area schools.

Student participation is via nomination only, selecting the brightest individuals in each school band.

With only one day of group rehearsals, students perform five songs to the tune of 21 band directors and guest clinician Dr. Duane Bierman, band director at the University of Nebraska-Kearney.

"These kids come from different schools and they work together and they play together and they do the thing that they love most and that's music and they get to enjoy a new director. They're probably just used to their own director at home. Getting another director, a different musical perspective is really great for them," says Rebecca Brittenham, band director at Adams Middle School.

Nearly 10 more schools joined the event this year.
