Kids build a butterfly garden

NORTH PLATTE, Neb.-- Children from the KIDS Klub Summer Academy spent Thursday morning turning their part of the community garden into a butterfly garden.

The new garden helps butterfly and bee species that are on the decline by providing them with a place to nest.

The renovations to the garden were made possible by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, which awarded the KIDS Klub a grant, and members of the local Pheasants Forever chapter, who helped them put the plants in the ground.

"My favorite part was getting the plant out of the little container, and then putting it in the ground and patting it," Asiah Harmon said.

The plants are perennials, which means they will grow back year after year.
