NORTH PLATTE, Neb. Nebraskaland National Bank hosted its annual Community Shred Day Wednesday.
The public was able to drop off any unwanted personal documents for disposal free of charge.
It's part of the bank's continued effort to prevent identity theft.
"Especially after tax season it's a good time to clean out," said Nebraskaland National Bank Executive Vice President Kim Schroll. "You keep seven years of your tax information and after you get done with that, it's a good time to clean out the old bank statements and all of that information just bring them on over to Shred Day in May."
The bank has hosted Community Shred Day for over ten years.
More than three tons of documents were shredded.
