Red Cross reaches a critical low nationwide

North Platte Winter storms have cancelled more than 550 blood drives in January, causing over 16,500 blood and platelet donations to go uncollected.

The Red Cross considers the situation critical and has issued an urgent call for blood and platelet donors.

There are blood donation sites in North Platte nearly every day. Those sites can be found by contacting the Red Cross or going on to their website.

St. Patrick's Catholic Church was the site of a blood drive today from 10-4. St. Pat's High School seniors were an intrical part of the drive as part of their Pillar of Service project. The seniors helped with registrations, canteen, and most of the scheduling of appointments.

They said by 11:30 a.m. that 24 appointments had been made, but they - and the Red Cross - hope to see many more people come out to donate, and help with the crisis.
