Snow and strong winds expected Sunday

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. -- A powerful winter storm system will bring dangerous weather conditions to much of the region...including the threat of heavy snow and high winds. Much of Western and Central Nebraska are already under BLIZZARD WARNINGS...including North Platte and the surrounding areas. The KNOP snowfall forecast in North Platte at this time is for the potential of 8-to-12" of new snow.

Conditions are expected to worsen from west-to-east across the state as the day goes along. An icy mix of precipitation may precede the snow in some areas...creating slick roadways...parking lots...and sidewalks..so please be careful with any travel plans. Whiteout-or-near-whiteout conditions will be likely in-and-near the blizzard warning areas.

Widespread snowfall amounts of 7-to-14" are possible...with some areas seeing the potential for up to 18" of new snow. The combination of heavy snow and increasingly strong winds will make for dangerous-if-not-impossible travel.

Stay tuned to KNOP on air, online and on social media for the latest on the winter storm.
