Union Pacific looks to hire 100 people

NORTH PLATTE, Neb.-- Union Pacific is looking to hire 100 people to work at Bailey Yard in North Platte.

On Monday, the company interviewed job applicants at North Platte Community College's North Campus. One recruiter said the company already employs about 2,000 people at Bailey Yard, but there is an "immediate need" for more workers. Kevin Forrest, a UP Talent Acquisition Manager, said the company is operating just fine, but these new workers will help them stay "ahead of the curve."

Union Pacific is looking to hire diesel electricians and people for train crew. Forrest and another recruiter said they want someone who works hard and takes pride in their job. They also said they want someone who shows up on time and understands the importance of safety.

"Those intangibles that we really look for, especially as recruiters, is that (we want) people who have the ability to get to work when we need them to be there," Forrest said. "We need people that have an aptitude for safety. People that have the ability to follow a process and take the extra time to get a job done right. We don't need to rush through things. We don't need to take shortcuts."

Forrest said the company has "expedited" the hiring process. Job offers can come as soon as the interview is over.

The next interview session will start Tuesday at 8 a.m at NPCC's North Campus.
