More military personnel are coming home.

But there may not always be a job waiting for them, especially in rural areas.

In an effort to expand agriculture in the state, the Center of Rural Affairs is helping veterans get started in the industry.

The center, along with ten different agencies are holding workshops for Veterans.

“We want them to come home and go back to their rural routes where they grew up.  But they don't know how and so we're helping them understand how to utilize our ownership programs to go home into rural communities, where ever they are and establish families and eventually become owners of ranchers, farms and main street businesses,” says Weldon Sleight, Dean, University of Nebraska, NCTA.

The USDA Risk Management Agency is funding this Veteran Farmers Project.

The next workshop date is not set but the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture in Curtis hopes to schedule one soon.
