A late night grass fire near Lake Maloney on Monday, turned into a structure being completely burned to the ground.

North Platte firefighters originally responded to a grass fire that consumed a structure.

The fire started a little after 11 p.m. on Miller School Road close to the canal.

Five trucks and 15 firefighters responded to the blaze.

The structure was an abandoned trailer.

Captain Trent Kleinow says they aren't quite sure how the fire started.

The fire is contained.

"Well we originally responded to a grass fire, upon attacking the grass fire we noticed a structure that was burning. So we pulled up on the structure, completely, total loss, so at that point we just contained our perimeter, making sure it didn't spread to nearby houses,” says Trent Kleinow, Captain / North Platte Fire Department.

Fire crews worked well into the early morning making sure no flare ups or hotspots occurred.

No injuries were reported.
