What happens when Old Glory becomes tattered and worn?
You wouldn't just throw it in the dumpster, it should be treated with respect and honor.
The local American Legion Post and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post were getting rid of old flags properly Saturday with a flag disposal ceremony.
Around 500 flags both large and small were incinerated.
The flags were donated by people all over the area.
Its hope that ceremonies like this will teach people the proper way to dispose of their flags.
""It is discouraging when flags are flown that are not in the proper shape to be flown. As a service to the community, we would like to respectfully take care of the disposal of those flags have flown,” said Howard Gebhardt, VFW Trustee.
If you have a flag you would like to dispose of you can do so by dropping it off at the American Legion Post at 163 East Fourth Street as well as the VFW next-door.
