Fatal Accident in Cozad

A 32-year old Kearney man was killed on Friday after a fatal semi truck accident.

Kenneth Berglund died in the accident that happened around 4 a.m. and closed the interstate between Cozad and Lexington for two hours.

Berglund was driving the semi westbound on Interstate 80.

It went into the median, striking a guard rail before ended up in its side----blocking the west bound lane.

The driver of the truck was pronounced dead at the scene.

State Patrol officials investigating the crash say there was no indication of tire marks or that Berglund tapped on the breaks before slamming into the guard rail, four miles east of Cozad.

Matthew Wamsley, Nebr. State Patrol, says, “This vehicle was blocking the passing lane, along with the clean up, which took additional time. And then after that we opened up one lane for west bound traffic.”

The State Patrol was still on scene at 11:30 this morning. (Friday)
