25 Years Of Service To Lexington

By Jenn Hatcher.

Many gathered today at the Grand Generation Center in Lexington to shake hands, eat cake, and honor their retiring police chief.

After 40 years, Charles Clark knows all the ins and outs of being an officer.

In 1979 he started at the police station in Lincoln, 16 years later he returned home to Lexington where he was hired on as the Police Chief, after 25 years he is retiring.

People gathered Thursday to say their goodbyes.

Sgt. Tracy Wolf has worked with Clark through his entire time as chief, "Charlie loved his job dearly, he's going to have hard time walking away, he is going to have a hard time changing the pace, it's hard for Charlie to slow up."

Clarks say the thing he will miss the most is the people.

Over the past 25 years he has seen lots of changes to the town he calls home.

"Our population changed dramatically at that point, he went from a combine factory with 900 workers to a meat packing plant with upwards of 24,000 workers,” said Clark Thursday, “it's been a challenge no doubt about it had a lot of different cultural changes in the community that have been equally as challenging."

And that's not the only difference, Clark has watched the technology in police cars become something he never would have dreamed of back when he started out.

"Computers, we can't live without them now where as initially they were just a new toy, but now we really need them and we're always discovering new ways to use them as well," said Clark.

Charlie's last day was Thursday and they said he worked up until the very last minute.

He hopes to spend his extra time with his one year old granddaughter, work on his house, and take a vacation.
