Hot start to the week
NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - It will be a hot start to the week with temperatures well above average for this time of the year. Many locations should see afternoon highs in the mid 90s to around 100. When you factor in the humidity, the heat index could be around 100 to 105. The chance of rain looks to be slight.
A better chance of showers and thunderstorms is expected Tuesday with the arrival of a cold front. Some storms could be severe. The main threats are large hail and damaging winds. The chance of a tornado is very low. Rain would be welcome with many locations below average for the month and the year for precipitation.
It should be cooler Tuesday and Wednesday with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s. Highs return to the mid 90s for Thursday and Friday. There will be a small rain chance Thursday through Sunday, mainly for late afternoon and into the early evening.
MONDAY: Mostly sunny and hot. Highs in the upper 90s. Southeast winds at 8 to 18 mph with gusts to 25 mph.
MONDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear and mild. Lows near 70. Southeast winds at 5 to 15 mph.
TUESDAY: Mostly sunny in the morning, then partly to mostly cloudy in the afternoon with a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms. Some storms could be severe. Cooler with highs in the upper 80s. North winds at 10 to 20 mph with gusts to 30 mph
