NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) -North Platte’s first annual Pow Wow Contest will take center stage at the Buffalo Bill Scouts Rest Ranch at the end of the month.

The three-day event will feature Native American tribes from across the country and will include traditional singing and dancing, as well as an art show, vendors and educational sessions.

Char Swalberg is organizing this year’s event with the help of sponsorship from Dusty’s Trails. She said she plans to honor veterans in a special way.

“It came from Operation Christmas Card and that’s where my heart is,” said Swalberg. “I care about our military, active, and our veterans and even those who have passed. When people hold a Pow Wow, there is usually a theme ‘Honoring Our Women,' ‘Honoring Our Children,' ‘Honoring Our Grandmothers’ and what have you and we opted to go with ‘Honoring Our Veterans.'

The Pow Wow is scheduled for July 31-August 2nd.

If you would like to have your veteran’s name displayed, contact Swalberg on the North Platte Pow Wow Facebook page or call 308-520-9516.
