NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) -The City of North Platte was recognized by the Nebraska Department of Economic Development as an ongoing member of the State's Economic Development Certified Community.

North Platte is among 40 communities to earn the status in the program.

The E.D.C.C. was established to recognize communities for preparedness to attract new industries and grow existing businesses.

In order to qualify the community must have a well-defined program that engages active businesses and supports incoming economic projects.

One of North Platte’s biggest accomplishments has been the $4 million Canteen District project which is currently underway.

North Platte Area Chamber and Development President Gary Person says success can only be achieved when everyone works together.

“It happens through community collaboration. Everybody pulling in the same direction,” said Person. “When you got these turf protection battles going on, or you’ve got citizens that run your community down all of the time- that’s not a good thing. The more we can work together, the more we can make this happen.”

Over the last five years, local investors have established 121 businesses and nearly 900 jobs in North Platte.
