Vacation Bible School brings worship and fun
NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - Vacation Bible school happens every year at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church but this year looks a little different. The organizers’ goal is to bring kids together for a fun day of worship, dance, and community. They decided to offer this event social distancing-style, where families can keep their distance and still be involved. Organizers live stream the event where around 200 families tune in from home.
“I think it’s just important for people to be able to have that in person connection, that option”, said Katie Groves, the Chair Person for Board of Parish Education. “I think for so long we’ve been so kind of isolated from each other that we didn’t have the opportunity to come together and worship. And that’s really what this is about,”
They provided goody bags for kids to bring home and had live music from Nashville singer Jennie Williamson with Arison Records.
“Well you know I think if there’s anybody that needs reassurance, community, it’s those kids. They’ve been out of school. I know they have their families, and they probably have some incredible friends and neighborhoods too. But there’s nothing like bringing them all together and being able to sing and dance and worship and just learn a little bit more,” said Williamson.
A stream of their event can be found on their Facebook page, “Our Redeemer Lutheran Church and School”.
“I think when the technology granted us to the option to go live we needed to embrace it. It’s just as important to get the message at home as it is to be in the sanctuary with us,” said Groves.
Organizers say they are grateful they are able to have their Vacation Bible School events and bring the community joy and worship.
