NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - Monday, Lake Maloney Golf Course hosted the first round of the Junior Ambassador Golf Classic.

Through the first day, four high school boys are tied for the lead. Connor Hasenauer, Kasch Morrison, Teegan Sonneman, and Cole Schroer each shot 77 (+5) on the day. Three golfers sit just one stroke back of the lead; Jayden Jones, Cole Fedderson, and Jake Scherer each shot 78 (+6).

“I shot pretty good, putted good, didn’t chip the best, but I played really good for today,” said Hasenauer. “[Tomorrow] I’d like to keep the irons going, I struck the irons real well, hopefully hit a few more fairways, I was a bit right and left today. But, other than that, try to keep all the rest the same.”

“Today was a pretty good day, I hit the ball really well on the front nine, I struggled to make good putts and shots on the back, but I feel pretty good,” Morrison said. “[Tomorrow] I want to be able to keep it going throughout the full 18, make short putts, I missed a lot of short putts today, and just hit it well off the tee.”

Two high school girls are tied for the lead after the first day. Maya Lashley and Ali Boswell shot 80 (+8), and are followed by Clara Hosman, who shot 81 (+9).

After day one, Hasenauer and Morrison shared their thoughts on playing in the Junior Ambassador Classic.

“It’s just a fun tournament, they have flag prizes, and it’s always just a good time with good people you can play with,” Hasenauer said.

“I like that it’s just here in town. You can get up in the morning, sleep in your own bed, and play with people from around here,” Morrison said.
