Nebraska Women’s Match Play Championship day one results
Karsen Morrison advances to Founders Bracket quarterfinals
NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - Monday was the start of the Nebraska Women’s Match Play Championship at the Kearney Country Club.
North Platte’s Karsen Morrison and Baylee Steele, Brule’s Harley Hiltibrand, and Ogallala’s Kira Mestl competed in the Championship Division, and Ogallala’s Karen Jensen competed in the Non-Championship Division.
In the qualifier, Mestl finished fourth in the Championship Division, shooting 76 (+5), Steele and Morrison shot 83 (+12), finishing in a four-way tie for 16th place, and Hiltibrand finished 84 (+13), to finish in a five-way tie for 20th place. Jensen shot 82 (+10), to finish fourth in the second flight of the Non-Championship Division.
Steele, Morrison, Kristin Goertz if Omaha, and Lacie Fox of Beemer competed in a play-off for the final spot in the Championship Bracket Round of 16. Steele and Fox were eliminated after two holes, and Goertz defeated Morrison after five holes.
Steele, Morrison, and Hiltibrand advanced to the head-to-head matches in the Founders Bracket, and Mestl advanced to the Championship Bracket.
In the Round of 16, Morrison had a bye. Mestl was defeated by Sydney Taake of Papillion, 1 up. Steele was defeated by Brynn Sundquist of Lincoln, 3 & 2. Hiltibrand was defeated by Julia Karmazin of Omaha, 4 & 3.
Tuesday, Morrison will play Hunter Gillis of Omaha in the Founders Bracket Quarterfinals. Jensen will play Kathy Garrelts of Kearney in the 2nd Flight Bracket Quarterfinals.
