NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) -2018 Sutherland High School graduate Haiden Kreber has been selected as this year’s student commencement speaker at North Platte Community College.

Kreber will be graduating next Friday with two degrees - an Associate of Arts and an Associate of Science.

But Kreber says getting to this point wasn’t easy as she felt the odds were against her many times.

Kreber said she grew up with a tough home life where domestic abuse, drugs and alcohol were present. Yet, she pressed on, not only succeeding in her studies but in volleyball too.

“I think it was just really hard growing up with the lifestyle that my family lived, ‘Well why don’t I just start doing those things too, nobody would think any different?' So it was really hard at times but, I just knew that God had a bigger and better plan for me,” Kreber said.

Kreber plans to transfer to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in the fall and major in child and family studies with a minor in psychology. She also plans to earn her master’s degree in community counseling.
