NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - It was another show day at the Lincoln County Fairgrounds.

Dozens of 4-H members showed their sheep in the pavilion.

After hours of preparation they harnessed their animals and took them for a walk to prove their showmanship skills to the judge.

Many of the junior showman watched with intent as the seniors competed to learn their tricks.

Senior Showmanship Champion Blake Bruns said the key to winning is the connection to the animal.

“I’ve been working with him since about April,” said Bruns. “We just get close. Make a connection with the lamb and you work better as a team.”

Bruns said he’s grateful for the 4-H program and says it’s taught him how to be a leader.
