NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - A build up of heat will be prevalent the next couple of days with temperatures in the 90s through Saturday. Thunderstorms will be an issue on Friday as well, as an upper level disturbance in Southwest Colorado pushes northeast onto the Plains by mid afternoon. Storms that develop during peak heating of the day could evolve into supercells initially producing a threat for damaging winds and large hail. Then in the evening these storms may line up into a line capable of damaging winds as they sweep through the Panhandle through the Sandhills. Some areas in West Central Nebraska through the northern parts of the state could also see some heavy rainfall.

Heat Advisories are in effect in the North Central part of the state through Saturday evening. The hot weather will reach it’s peak on Saturday before a cold front transitions us to cooler weather next week. Storms will accompany the front Saturday afternoon into Sunday evening. As the front stalls out over Northern Kansas, scattered storms will again be possible with readings in the 80s through midweek.
