Weekend Begins Hot, Ends Cooler
NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - Those sensitive to the heat may want to lay low on Saturday. Heat Advisories will be in effect from Western Nebraska to the Missouri River. In most areas, actual temperatures will push into the mid to upper 90s, but with high humidity in place, temperatures will feel like 101 to as high as 108 in the east. The threat for thunderstorms increases Saturday afternoon but development will begin widely scattered to isolated. Coverage will become more widespread during the evening and overnight hours. A few strong storms could be part of the mix as a few could mature enough to produce damaging winds and hail.
Sunday a cold front slowly settles south providing the focus for thunderstorms. The better coverage appears to be south and east of the North Platte area but there will be periods of thunderstorms locally as well with some opportunities for heavy rain given the moisture in place. Temperatures will be 10 to 15 degree cooler on Sunday with reading in the lower 80s. More seasonal weather will continue into next week as a series of disturbance also keeps periodic thunderstorm chances going into late week.
