NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - Graduation finally took place for seniors at the North Platte High School Saturday.

The ceremony was delayed about ten weeks due to the coronavirus.

More than 300 graduates gathered at Bauer Field for a ceremony many of them didn’t think would happen because of the virus.

“It feels good to finally have this day,” said Ciera Carlson. “I think we’ve all been waiting and it was pretty unknown if we were going to have it all. The fact that we get to come here and see all of our classmates after four months apart feels pretty good!”

“I am very excited, I’ve been dreaming of this since kindergarten so it feels pretty nice!,” said Kamryn Hughes.

Although school officials managed to preserve some of the traditional elements of a graduating ceremony, things were much different. Students were were given hand sanitizer, they were kept six feet apart and only six guests per student were allowed.

The event was live streamed on the district’s face book page.
