Ogallala, Broken Bow advance in Mid-NE senior tournament

The two teams will play each other in the semi-final Wednesday.

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - Tuesday night the quarterfinal games of the Mid-Nebraska League senior baseball tournament were held.

In the west bracket, top-seeded Ogallala hosted five-seed Imperial. The game was a pitcher’s dual between Ogallala’s Cameron Laviagurre and Imperial’s Dominic Sis. Laviagurre struck out 11 batters in seven innings pitched, allowing just two runs, Sis struck out six batters in six innings, but allowed four runs in the bottom of the sixth, and Ogallala won 5-2.

In the other west quarterfinal, #2 Gothenburg hosted #3 Broken Bow. The Indians held a four-run lead going into the bottom of the final inning. The Melons made things interesting, scoring two runs in the inning, but the comeback fell short. Clay Brandon pitched 6.1 innings for the Indians, and struck out seven Melon hitters. Spencer Bumgarner drove in two runs in the win.

Ogallala and Broken Bow will play in the west bracket final on Wednesday in Ogallala.

On the east side of the bracket, top-seeded PWG defeated #4 Grand Island USave 2-1, and #6 Kearney defeated #2 Central City 9-5.

The east and west champions will play each other on Friday.
