NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) -As a narrow cluster of showers and a few thunderstorms drop into Kansas cloud cover over the far southwest areas of the state will clear out setting the tone for a decent weekend to kick off the month of August.

A cold front is moving in from South Dakota Saturday bringing us a much needed break from that July heat. The weekend weather should be relatively cool with below average temperatures and mostly sunny skies. Saturday has some potential for rainfall in the later afternoon/ early evening. However, severe thunderstorms should not be too high of a threat for Saturday. Generally, this weekend will be a great start to August. That cold front is going to be keeping us in these cooler temperatures through most of our work week next week. Temperatures will begin to warm back up Thursday and Friday with highs in the mid 80s.
