NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - With an upper level high pressure ridge building into the area today, this will lead to above average temperatures returning to the area and hanging around through Sunday. There is a chance of showers and thunderstorms this weekend. Some storms could be severe Saturday.

This afternoon will be mostly sunny and hot with high temperatures in the low 90s. The warming trend continues Saturday and Sunday with highs in the mid to upper 90s. With a cold front expected to stall in Northern Nebraska Saturday and an upper level disturbance likely to move across the region, there is a chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening. Some storms could be severe with the main threats being large hail and damaging winds. A few isolated tornadoes can’t be ruled out. Rain could be heavy at times.

A cold front should move through the area late Sunday which will cool us down for Monday. That cold front will stall in Northern Kansas before lifting back to the north as a warm front late Tuesday. That means hotter temperatures return for Wednesday and Thursday. With a front in the area as well as some occasional upper level disturbances moving through the area, rain can’t be ruled out any day Sunday through Thursday.
