Pigskin Preview: Maxwell Wildcats
Team looking to make improvements on defensive side of the ball
NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) -
The Maxwell Wildcats football team is looking to build on some positive trends from last year, such as making the playoffs and averaging over 40 points per game. They are also looking to leave some parts of the 2019 season behind them, having a record below .500 and allowing 45 points per game to name a few.
Head coach Ryan Jones said he hopes the team can bring last years offensive consistency into this season and that they will continue to run the ball heavily. Jones couldn’t ignore however the defensive woes that plagued the team.
“We know we got to be better defensively, it’s been the upmost importance so far in practice and with our mindset,” Jones said.
This years team has a senior core that has played together since their middle school days and hope to use that developed chemistry to their advantage.
“We’ve all played together for several years and we all know each other very well and so I feel like we got a big advantage,” said senior Luke Howitt.
As school gets underway, the players and coaches alike are happy to be back together and out on the field after months of uncertainty.
“We really missed the kids and our student athletes and you can kind of see it on their faces for once that the kids really missed the coaches,” Jones said.
