North Platte golf, softball start season strong

Bulldogs softball defeat Gering and Adams Central, golf bests Ogallala.

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - The 2020 fall sports season officially kicked off Thursday, with North Platte golf and softball both at home to open their seasons.

The Bulldog softball team hosted Gering and Adams Central for a triangular at the Dowhower Complex. North Platte easily handled both their Class B opponents, defeating the Patriots in game one, 10-1, and beating their fellow Bulldog opponents 8-0 in game three.

South of town, the Bulldog golf team hosted Ogallala for a dual at Lake Maloney Golf Course. Five golfers for each team faced off on the back nine at the Lake.

The Bulldogs had the top four finishers in the event. Senior Baylee Steele and sophomore Karsen Morrison tied for the lead, each shooting 36, senior Maya Lashley was just two strokes behind at 38, and sophomore Abbie Jones shot 42.

The Bulldog softball team is 2-0 to start the year, and take the field again Monday, when they travel to Hastings to take on the Tigers.

The Bulldog golf team has just over a week off, and will compete in its first invitational of the season next Friday at the Awarii Dune Golf Club.
