NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - Thursday afternoon, a semi-truck and trailer carrying 18 bales of hay caught on fire north of the Union Pacific Railroad Crossing on North Airport Road. It is unknown what caused the bales to catch fire, but there was minimal damage to the surrounding area. The North Platte Fire Department was needed, and at least three units assisted.

Since the truck was so close to the airport, some of their fire crew came out to help manage the fire until North Platte Fire Department made it on scene. Four different departments were on scene; The North Platte Regional Airport Fire Department, Union Pacific Railroad, and Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department, as well as the North Platte Fire Departments.

The fire took place very close to a distribution transformer, which connects to all of the power lines. Thankfully, firefighter crews made it to the scene before any damage was caused to the lines.

The truck was able to disconnect from the trailer and the driver of the vehicle walked away from the scene with no injuries. The truck also had no damage, and the trailer has minimal damage.
