NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - Two North Platte firefighters did all they could to make sure the memory of fallen service men and women were remembered today. Hosting an event at Anytime Fitness, Justin Thompson and Taylor Barton scheduled fire fighters and community members to use the stair climber. Some firefighters donned full fire equipment while they stepped, in an effort to honor the brave heroes that entered the burning World Trade Center nineteen years ago.

Their main goal was to make sure people never forget what happened that tragic day. “Time can erase feelings, it can. And we don’t want that to happen, because it’s too important of a day and too many lives were sacrificed to not remember these people for hundreds of years from now” said Barton. As for Justin Thompson, thirteen years and counting at NPFD, he was advocating for unity.

“This felt like a moment for us to really sit down and remember what it was like when we were united, when we were one country with one goal; hopefully on a day like today we can get a lot more people to remember that for a moment not that long ago we were on the same team and we need to get back to that.”

Gone but never forgotten, the North Platte community continuing to remember our fallen heroes nineteen years later.
