North Platte Plant Swap opens at Community Garden
8th and Willow, North Platte
NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - For those who are looking for a fun project, a new stand here at the community garden is the place to be. North Platte Plant Swap is now available to the community to find a fun plant or even a decorated rock to take home.
Organizer Tynell Jarvis said the plants are free to the public and encourage people to bring plants to swap.
“I just really hope people love plants as much as I do. I’m an instructor, I teach yoga, I just enjoy helping people feel happy. Like it’s truly important to me. It’s something that’s really special to me. So I’m just glad that everybody gets to enjoy it,” said Jarvis.
Jarvis said the project is special to her to bring something positive to the community.
“I’m really proud of it, it’s just really special,” said Jarvis.
Organizers encourage the community to drop off plants even if they don’t want to take one.
“It’s pretty much for anyone. I personally think it would be great for someone who has never had a plant before and they may want to have a starter plant,” said Jarvis.
Jarvis said the app, “Picture This,” is a great way to take a photo of the plant to identify it and learn what it needs. While this is a soft opening, they are excited to have their grand opening next year and continue to have the plant swap every year.
If you are taking a plant they encourage one per person so everyone can enjoy them. Organizers encourage people to post a picture with the hashtag #NPPlantSwap on Instagram or Facebook.
