Salvation Army launches holiday relief fundraiser
Organization seeing unprecedented demand due to Covid-19
NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - The Salvation Army North Platte is seeing an increased need from the community, as families are left struggling with financial hardships caused by Covid-19. Since March, the organization has provided food to 520 families, assisted 18 families with rent and utilities, and distributed produce to approximately 11,400 families here in the community.
Because of the increased demand, the group is launching their annual holiday fundraising campaign earlier than ever before. While the traditional red kettles won’t be coming out in North Platte until November 9, there are plenty of ways to donate before then:
- Enlist in “Love’s Army” with a sustaining monthly gift of $25 per month.
- Give any amount by texting “KETTLES” 91999.
- Donate Physical gifts in bulk.
Donations from the community will help local families to put food on the table, pay bills, provide shelter, and place gifts under the tree.
“I just want to thank the community in advance for the support I know they will provide. This is a very caring community and they are very generous and we appreciate it very much," said Corps Officer Major Harold Poff.
Last year in North Platte, an amount of $54,532 was raised through eleven red kettle locations. Again, those kettles will go up on November 9 and remain available until December 24.
