NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - Due to COVID-19, youth programs have to find new ways to recruit members. On Thursday, Community Connections Lincoln County held a recruitment event in the Platte River Mall parking lot.

Community Connections Lincoln County is an umbrella for various programs such as Asset Team, Impact Team, and Lincoln County Youth Leaders. The programs are fit for all students, because the skills and opportunities they provide will translate into children’s adult lives.

Community Connection Mentoring provides mentorship to 4th - 7th graders. Students are paired with an adult mentor to help bring new experiences to the child’s life. They meet four hours each month and also participate in group activities.

The Asset Team teaches the 40 developmental assets for grades 6th - 8th. The Youth Leaders program teaches leaders and substance abuse prevention advocacy.

The Impact Team also focuses on leadership, involvement in the community and building confidence. One of the goals of the Impact Team is to teach life lessons. They regularly visit senior centers and retirement homes to provide additional experiences.

The overall goal of these programs is to lead children into positive behaviors and help them succeed in life.

All youth sign up for the programs will be meeting via zoom. The Asset Team and Youth Leaders will begin meeting in the next week. The Impact Team will meet October 7.
