NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) -This week, there have been many events to celebrate the Constitution. On Friday, McDaid Elementary hosted their own celebration with one of the founding fathers and members of the Daughters of the Revolution – Sioux Lookout Chapter.

George Washington and members of DAR performed a skit for the fifth and sixth graders illustrating the road to creating the Constitution and amendments.

Students were attentive in learning about the nation’s history while being socially distanced and maintaining CDC guidelines.

At the end of the skit, students were able to test their knowledge about the Constitution and its history. They also showcased their ability to translate the Bill of Rights in American Sign Language.

The students and faculty enjoyed this event because of the opportunity to expand their knowledge of the Constitution and its place in our nation’s history.

One student, Ashley Gartner, explained how the event expanded on the lessons she learned from her social studies teacher.

Students were also encouraged to continue learning about the nation’s heritage and the importance of voting when they get older.

“It is fun to learn new stuff about our nation’s history,” said student Tim Blakeley.
