NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - Archie Silvrants turned heads and dropped jaws when he walked into the Family Hearing Specialists office in North Platte this week. What was meant to be a routine hearing aid check, turned into much more when Archie decided to surprise the staff with his latest masterpiece.

“When I called and made my appointment I said ‘make sure both ladies are there because I have something I know they’re going to want to see,'" said the jovial Silvrants. The item that garnered all of the attention is a handcrafted piece that is intended to reflect the life of Jesus.

Archie had been wanting to craft this piece for a long time, but a current medical condition made it difficult to do. "'I shake so bad anymore that I just couldn’t do anything with it. I started last January or February and finally the other day, The Lord said we’re gonna finish it, so we finished it.'”

Archie is an avid woodcarver and taught classes before the pandemic. He donates or gives away all of his pieces that he creates. His message for anybody hoping to carve such amazing work: “practice, practice, practice.”
