Buffalo Early Learning Center builds outdoor classroom
NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) -One learning center is giving students the opportunity to learn outside of the classroom.
The Buffalo Early Learning Center is building an outdoor classroom. Students will be able to discover the world around them with hands-on activities and stations.
The outdoor classroom concept engages children with nature and exploring their surroundings. This type of learning environment is good for all ages.
Teachers in the preschool program at the Buffalo Early Learning Center collaborated on the layout of the classroom and are instrumental in providing the ideas for the learning centers.
There will be different centers to provide various learning opportunities for the students, such as a mud kitchen, sandbox, log building area, climbing area, water playing area, garden area and a stage with musical instruments.
Peggy Romshuk, who is a volunteer helping build the classroom, said “Students don’t get outside enough to explore and learn play in mud dig in sand. I think it’s a great first for students to do that.”
Students will have outdoor time each day. Teachers have the option to incorporate the outdoor classroom into their lesson plans.
