NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - This week’s Friday Night Sports Hero is Conner Phillips, the four year starting quarterback for Sandhills Valley. Conner had never played quarterback before high school yet will graduate with a nearly 6:1 TD to interception ratio. Sandhills Valley Head coach Luke Connell knew Conner would be his QB when he saw him Freshman year.

“I’ll never forget we went to Spalding Academy game one and he trots out there and one of his first passes was a touchdown and I’m like, well that’s my man. To have Conner Phillips on the field for four years has been pretty special."

And it’s not only his head coach who he has impressed. The whole team recognizes him as their leader on and off the field.

“He’s always building up everyone...he’s the most humble person I know,” added Senior running back Will Sisson.

And it’s hard to argue with that sentiment after Conner’s heartfelt message to the community that has supported him for the past four years.

“I just want to say thank you for everything, I mean we wouldn’t be here without you guys, and regardless of what happens I’m thankful.”]

Sandhills Valley is 4-3 so far this season in their first year elevating from six man to eight man football.
