NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - The pandemic has created yet another hurdle for election officials trying to plan November’s Election. Places that typically serve as reliable polling stations are now off the table because of COVID-19. Facilities like senior centers or schools are no longer options due to ongoing health and safety protocols.

The Lincoln County Election Commission’s Office said the majority of the polling places that were open prior to the pandemic will be open. For others, voting precincts have changed.

Election Commissioner Rebecca Rossell said voters who typically vote at Autumn Park or at the Methodist Church, their new polling site will now be at the D&N Event Center. For voters who vote at the North Platte Senior Center, their new location will be at the Berean Church.

Some polling locations in surrounding communities have also changed.

“The Hershey Senior Center sold so their new permanent polling site will be at the American Legion," said Rossell. "Sellers precinct, which is basically out by Lake Maloney, for years, the school has been gracious enough to let us use their school facility, but with the students in session this fall where they were not there this spring for health and safety reasons, it was just decided that that was not a good choice, so Harbor Lights is going to be the new permanent location which is out by the lake.”

Election officials are still in need of alternate poll workers. Anyone who is interested, is advised to stop by or call the county election commission’s office. They also encourages anyone with further questions about this year’s General Election such as upcoming deadlines, to refer to the county’s election website for reference.

Rossell said postcards with polling place information will be mailed out to the county’s 24,000 registered voters a week before Election Day.
