FFA members collect corn donations
NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - North Platte High School’s Future Farmers of America are collecting their corn donations to fund their program.
FFA works with farmers to get corn from the field to take to the Ag Valley co-op who then gives them a check in return. Last year they raised $5,500 and hope to do that again this year.
“This is our second year of doing the corn drive and I hope that it continues throughout the next few years and hopefully even more after that,” said Vice President of FFA, Elleigh Fisher.
Chapter Advisor Kathleen Craig said she is glad she was able to bring this program to North Platte.
“I graduated from North Platte High School in 2013 and we did not have an Ag program when I was in high school and I always thought that was so sad and something we definitely needed as a part of our school because of the community we’re in and the communities we’re surrounded by," said Craig, “So I thought it was really important to try and bring this program to the high school and I was really excited to be the one to do it.”
Farmers from all around North Platte and Sutherland participated.
“The farmers have been extremely generous we’re all in tough times right now I’m just amazed that how many are still willing to donate and help us out,” said Craig.
FFA members say they enjoy the program and plan to continue to do this corn drive.
