NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - 98-year-old Edward Whitmore was awarded the quilt of valor on Tuesday for his time in World War Two. Edward served in the United States Army from 1943 until 1946.

Quilt of valor volunteers laid their hand-sewn quilt over his shoulders to represent a hug and thank you from the community. They encourage veterans who receive the quilt to use it regularly as a remembrance of the time they served. Whitmore was very thankful that the volunteers thought of him for this award. He was also awarded a certificate thanking him for his 3 years of service.

By the end of this week, the quilts of valor volunteers will give out a total of 30 quilts since they started this group in January 2019.
