Big Idea North Platte announces winner
NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - Big Idea North Platte is giving entrepreneurs the opportunity to pitch their ideas and receive winning prizes. They have 7 pre-selected finalists and chose one wild card entrepreneur from the audience. And that wild card entrepreneur ended up being the winner. Winner Casey Shiel says he is thrilled to have these new resources from his hard work and looks forward to the progress they will make with his new idea.
“I came up with the idea called Door Night Light. It’s a night light that attaches to your door and won’t turn on unless your door is all the way closed. So what’s its gonna do it’s intuitively teaching kids to close their bedroom door at night,” said Shiel.
Sheil says his idea can keep a family safe in the case of a fire.
“If you’re in that situation of having your door closed it’s gonna keep that harm away from you a little bit longer so that we can do our jobs as a fire department to get to your home or possibly come up with a different scenario to get out of that home safely,” said Shiel.
The first prize is 1000 dollars and a support package from the North Platte Telegraph. Second prize is 500 dollars and 3rd is 250 dollars. The Young Professional Board says this is important to bringing local businesses to North Plate.
“What makes it great is the hard working individuals that come here they open businesses they work hard at them and so we definitely want to support those entrepreneurs. They have to have community support to make their businesses work so that’s why we want to give them this little boost in the right direction,” said North Platte Young Professional Advisory Board Member, Evonne Keck.
The Young Professional Board says they look forward to continuing to do this each year.
