NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - A concerning phone scam is on the rise. Nebraska Public Power District telling customers to “hang up” if someone calls and asks you for money.

If someone calls you to tell you your electric meter needs replaced, or that you will be disconnected if you do not make an immediate payment over the phone, hang up. You can call NPPD’s customer service at 1-877-ASK-NPPD if this happens to you.

NPPD will never call you and ask you to make a wire transfer, or to send gift cards or pre-paid debit cards such as Green Dot cards.
