NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - Today is ‘National First Responders Day' and a local band, The Platinum Pearls, plan to celebrate first responders this weekend. The group will perform in the parking lot across from the Great Plains Health Hospital on Sunday from 4-6 PM. Members of the community are invited to join the festivities and participate from their cars or from a safe distance.

Nebraska Athletic Club Owner and Platinum Pearls drummer, Tommy Vieyra, spoke very passionately about the event.

“We wanted to take time to say ‘thank you’ and show our appreciation because of what’s going on in this world and this country...We’re so appreciative of what you do, and we want you to keep doing what you do, because we need you."

For Vieyra, It will be an emotional day performing as he has lost several people close to him due to Covid-19. He hopes that this event will uplift the community and provide support all first responders in our area.

“Whether it’s the medical field or law enforcement, they’re great people. Talk about someone who has dedicated their life to something, we have to thank them for it," added Vieyra.
